I've worked as a written translator across English–Russian–Ukrainian for over seven years — business correspondence, legal and technical documents (without notarization), website content, marketing materials. For marketing text, I don't translate word for word — I adapt the phrasing so it reads naturally in the target language rather than sounding 'translated.' For technical and legal documents, precision in terminology matters more, so I cross-check against specialized glossaries rather than relying on general knowledge alone. I use CAT tools (memoQ) for large or repetitive projects — it speeds up the work and keeps terminology consistent throughout the whole document. I always clarify the target audience of a translation: an internal company document and a public website page call for a different level of formality. I don't do notarized translations of official documents — that requires an accredited translator in a specific jurisdiction, and I point clients to the right specialist when that's what's needed. Average throughput is up to 2,000 words a day at a normal workload.
